POESIS is Pilar Proffitt & Robert Bristow, a husband and wife design team based in Lakeville, Connecticut. After apprenticing for architects Paul Rudolph, Aldo Rossi, Machado - Silvetti, and Peter Forbes, they opened their practice in 1999. From their studio and workshop, the pair seeks to design work that has its own palpable presence. They seek the common threads of simplicity, elegance and permanence, expressed clearly and quietly, in all that they make, be it architecture or furniture.

 

The studio and workshop, a former dairy barn, serves the dual roles of laboratory and production facility. There, they explore each prototype and create each piece by hand, one at a time. This hands - on approach gives them a better understanding of materials and processes and an opportunity to test their designs.

The furniture is now represented by Ralph Pucci, a relationship that has led to numerous shows and exhibitions, as well as the commission to design the Hotel Ralph Pucci..
